7.06.2018, 6 pm: Invitation to First Italian Research Day

The “Italian Research Day in the World” is a new yearly celebration launched in 2018 by the Minister of Education, University and Research. In the first year it will feature 81 events organized by Italian embassies and consulates around the world, thanks to the strong involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The objective is both to highlight the value of Italian research and its main players and the quality of Italian researchers in the world.

In Berlin we will have two talks by top Italian scientists and science managers: Prof. Pierluigi Nicotera, Scientific Director and Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases within the Helmholtz Association and Prof. Roberto Cingolani, Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology.

Prof. Nicotera’s research has been centered on the molecular mechanisms that lead to neuronal demise following chronic and acute insults. In his talk will explain the current research status on dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, which, due to the aging of the population, represent a growing health challenge. He will show how European programs can help facing the challenge.

Prof. Cingolani’s area of expertise are material science and nanotechnology. 1988-1991 he was staff member at the Max Planck Institut für Festkörperforschung in Stuttgart. He is also the inspirer and developed the masterplan for the Human Technopole, which is a new research center being created in Milano, dedicated to personalized medicine for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on nutrition. In his talk he will bring together robotics and novel healthcare.
